In the future I hope to have a section of this site or a separate site dedicated to the Dome Rock area, but for the time being, here is the latest info on access.
The property traditionally used to access Dome Rock was sold a few years ago to the Bentley Ranch and the old road has been closed. The state section to the north was also sold to the Bentleys recently, blocking access from the north. Dome Rock is on BLM property and as such is open to the public.
The following are two options I've found that will get you to Dome Rock without crossing any private land. Be aware that property lines are NOT marked and fence lines do not always follow property lines. Know where you are!!
Option 1: (This approach requires a vehicle with some clearance, but not 4wd.)Turn left 10.6 miles south of “Y” in road (2.2 miles north of reservoir). Follow dirt track 2.4 miles to fence. Pass through gate (please close gate), turn right. The road follows the fence then angles left past water trough and propane tank to second fence (1.7 miles). Turn left along fence then right at corner. A faint track leads to base of the Dome.
Option 2: Those with low clearance vehicles can avoid private property by driving 0.6 miles past the old access road and walking due east to the southern end of Dome Rock.
