Reinhold has long been an adventurous mountain climber, no satellite phones, no wires, no tents, and no outside support. He said that explorers with support tools are insulting and destroying nature.

By 1978, Reinhold and Peter Habeler became the first to climb Mount Everest without oxygen tanks, despite the recommendations of dozens of doctors and experts that this was impossible.

At the age when many other children are still afraid of the dark, Reinhold is testing the Dolomites in northern Italy, like the Geisler tops 3,350 m high near Brixen – his hometown.

Out of his 20s, he and his younger brother, Gunther, were among the best climbers in Europe. The most dangerous journey that Reinhold made was at Heiligkreuzkofel with a 600-meter high cliff. Back then, Reinhold was 23 and Gunther was 21 years old.

He said: “We have to sleep at the ledge. There is no place to attach the piston, but below is the abyss. I have survived anyway, but no one believes. For 10 years, People still think we lie. Someone came to that place, I saw the piston I left behind.
